The Trussel Trust is to help launch a fourth food bank in Glasgow to cope with rising demand for food hand outs across the city.  This one will launch on 29th November in Ibrox Parish Church.   In October the charity called for a UK-wide public inquiry into food poverty in the country describing the situation as “unacceptable”.

While campaigners have pointed to the impact welfare reform and punitive benefit sanctions as being behind the rising figures turning to food banks in desperate need, welfare minister Lord Freud, insisted that there is no evidence that the rise in the use of food banks has anything to do with welfare reform, implying that people use them because they are free, not because they are in desperate need.
