Support for managing staff

Groups and organisations that employ staff need to be mindful of the legal obligations that they have as employers. As part of our core Sector Development support we are funded to provide some initial training, guidance and support to voluntary sector groups and organisations in Glasgow.

Training for Supporting Staff

We recommend our training  as a good place to start and run regular sessions designed to cover the core topics that anyone managing staff should be aware of.  If your group or organisation is considering hiring staff for the first time, it is essential to be prepared.  We recommend our Hiring for the First Time session.  For any organisation with staff, it is important that trustees understand their responsibilities towards staff.  Our Boards as Employers session covers working practices, contracts and the core requirements.   There is also always an opportunity to ask key questions of our GCVS People and Safety Services Manager Natasha Gordon.  Check out our programme and who can attend our sessions.

“When managing at a distance I learnt it is better to ask, provide a checklist, provide equipment and be specific than hope everything is okay.”

“Do you know your employee is alive? I know now it is the employer responsibility for ensuring the work environment is safe even for Work From Home

One to One Support - HR Surgeries

  • Do you have a more specific staffing issue or question?
  • Are you a community group or organisation based in Glasgow?

Targeted surgery support is intended for organisations that need support beyond the scope of training sessions. HR surgery appointments are one to one discussions with Natasha Gordon, our People & Safety Services Manager.  These 45 minute appointments can be over Zoom or telephone.  Dates are available every month.  To book a HR surgery or if you just have a question, email us at  natasha.gordon@gcvs.org.uk
