Equalities at GCVS
Equalities is one of GCVS’s core organisational values. We provide an equalities news service, regularly run equalities training events, we can provide advice through our Employers’ Advice Service, and undertake specific pieces of equalities related work.
Recent work that we have been commissioned to do includes a Mainstreaming Equalities Organisational Development Handbook, and the Equality in Scotland’s Third Sector (ES3S) website – a resource on equality and human rights for Voluntary Sector organisations in Scotland.
Our Connecting Equalities project supported both public sector agencies and third sector organisations in Glasgow to meet the requirements of the Equality Act 2010 and, in particular, the public sector equality duties. There was a specific focus on building relations and support between the third sector and public sector in order to improve understanding, dialogue, transparency and practice, particularly around the collection of equalities monitoring information and equality impact assessments.
Current GCVS work in relation to equalities also includes:
Glasgow Equality Forum
Glasgow Equality Forum (GEF) is a City wide strategic policy forum which brings together representatives of voluntary sector equality networks in Glasgow to encourage better co-operation and cross-sector engagement on equality issues.
Glasgow Equality Forum provides strategic and policy expertise, and through the associated equality networks can provide access to wider viewpoints, including opportunities to engage with grassroots community organisations. Forum members can also provide advice and support on effective community engagement.
