The Public Bodies Joint Working Act 2014 passed the placed the integration of health and social care integration on a legislative footing.  The Act requires local authorities and health boards to integrate certain health and social care functions, with the intention of achieving more person-centred,  joined-up services.

The Scottish Government envisages a key role for the third sector in delivering these services, with the aim of keeping more people healthy and living at home, in their community for longer.
