Glasgow Creating Hope Through Action

Friday 9th September, 1pm to 2pm

The multi-agency Glasgow City Suicide Prevention Partnership are marking World Suicide Prevention Week by holding the annual Celebration of Life event at the Tranquility Garden, Gartnavel Hospital on Friday 9th September. The event welcomes anyone touched by suicide, providing a space for comfort and support and time to reflect with one another. The Partnership will be adopting the theme for World Suicide Prevention Day on the 10th September, ‘Creating Hope Through Action’.

The Celebration of Life event started in 2013, where the Glasgow City Choose Life group planted a Rowan tree, which is known as the Tree of Life, and symbolises courage, protection and wisdom. People who attend are given the opportunity to light a candle and leave a personal message tied to this beautiful growing tree.

To register for the event, please contact Tracey Jenkins from Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector by email or telephone 07399 735 883.

A message from Pauline Toner, Glasgow City Suicide Prevention Coordinator:

Through our joint actions we hope to improve the situation, but suicide prevention is not the job of one person or group. Suicide Prevention is everyone’s business: We can all act to try and prevent suicide. If you are worried about someone you can start a conversation with them, ask them how they are feeling, listen to them and let them know that you care. You don’t need to have the answers. If it feels right, you can ask them if they are thinking about suicide and if they are you can work with them to keep them safe and get help.
