Could you benefit from free marketing support?

We are pleased to partner with the University of Glasgow for a second year to offer three voluntary sector organisations support with their marketing communications planning.

Marketing Communications Project:

  • Do you have a service or idea you need to help to promote?
  • Would your organisation benefit from a marketing communications plan?
  • Are you open to hearing new and creative ideas?

Following a successful launch in 2022, organisations are again invited to apply for support with their marketing communications. The University of Glasgow will work with three selected applicants to define a ‘client brief’ for a group of this year’s marketing students.

From September to December, the assigned students will create and develop an integrated marketing communications plan based on your requirements. They will present their recommendations in the form of a group presentation, for you to take forward as you wish. This year’s project also went on to fund a student placement to take forward the results of the project.

Students taking part will be 3rd and 4th year Marketing Communications (MA Management) undergraduates. They are supported by the course coordinator, tutors and GCVS team throughout to gather regular feedback which will inform their final submission. Organisations are not expected to host or manage the students yourself. Our aim is to help support voluntary sector organisations to develop and promote their services whilst also providing future marketing graduates with practical experience and an increased awareness of the third sector.

Hear from last year’s participants

“Definitively the students have been bringing ideas and approaches that we haven’t considered. Some of the research carried out in relation to our competitors and general landscape we operate in will help us immensely.

In the first instance I would say up front to charities thinking about it in the coming year that it is a lot of work to put together a marketing focused business plan. However, when we went out to the university, we met some very bright and enthusiastic students and the resulting projects have been of an exceptional quality.

Overall, I’m very optimistic that this placement will bring fresh thinking and energy into the organisation and in general capacity that we struggle to bring to our communication and marketing work. As with most service providers we don’t have a team or even a dedicated staff member to focus on this area. It has been timely for ourselves as we have a new 5-year strategy and I have a good feeling that this work, which will focus on improving our social media profile, will very much support us to address some of the trickier issues we face such as recruitment of younger staff.

We will definitely walk away from this work strengthened.” Deafblind Scotland
