We are very sad to announce the passing of our colleague and friend at GCVS, Donna Mackinnon.
Donna recently joined GCVS as Partnership Manager for Employability, and was working with public and third sector colleagues to ensure that the third sector was an integral part of the Local Employability Partnership and the city’s approach to employability. Although she had only been in post a short time she was already making big impacts for the sector.
Donna brought with her an abundance of experience, and many who hadn’t yet connected with her in her new role would have known her from her many years working at SCVO where she oversaw projects such as Community Jobs Scotland. As well as working part time for GCVS, she has also been working for SUSE, the Scottish Union for Supported Employment.
Donna demonstrated her commitment to social change from a young age, becoming President of NUS Scotland, as well as taking an active role in politics and campaigning.
She will be sadly missed and we wish to express our condolences to her family and friends.
Ian Bruce, GCVS Chief Executive said:
“Donna’s dedication, intelligence and warmth was clear throughout her career. In her short time with GCVS she made an impact on colleagues and partners.
Her commitment to helping others and grasp of issues have been evident in her work to include third sector organisations in local plans for employability and the Shared Prosperity Fund.
Our thoughts are with Donna’s family and friends.”

i am very sorry to hear the sad new of Donna Mackinnon’s passing. i have known and worked with Donna over many years . Both as a past vice chair of SCVO and as a Third Sector colleague. Her commitment to improving the lives of people through the many projects she initiated and led was impressive . Donna will be sadly missed and i send my condolences to her family and friends.
I am so sad to hear this terrible news. I knew Donna for many years going back to the beginnings of the Voluntary Sector Option of New Deal. I was with EVOC at the time. Donna was with SCVO and was instrumental in engaging the voluntary sector across Scotland with employability initiatives. As well as being excellent at her job she was also an all-round fantastic human being who genuinely cared about people both inside and out of the sector. She will be a massive loss to many people as well as those she was yet to meet In her new role with GCVS. My thoughts go out to her family and friends.
