From February 2016, not-for-profit organisations will be able to access, unsold and perfectly edible food from local Tesco stores.
Partnering with FareShare UK and Tesco, FoodCloud is the innovative technology that makes this possible. Charities are notified via text when surplus food becomes available, the types of food available and the times for store collection (8.30pm to 9.30pm).
FareShare is currently looking for charities and community groups that could benefit from food donations (typically bakery, fruit and vegetables), through reducing the costs of providing food for their vulnerable service users.
The FareShare FoodCloud service runs alongside FareShare Glasgow and the West of Scotland’s regular model, which has been supporting charities from their Springburn depot for a number of years.
