A new website will allow people to share their experiences of social care as part of a new pilot funded by the Scottish Government.  It is anticipated that care providers will be able to respond to comments posted on the site and will also use the information gathered to improve services.

The new independent website will complement the existing Patient Opinion website, with a view to driving up standards across the social care spectrum.

Those who receive care in public or Independent care homes and those who receive care at home will be encouraged to take part in the pilot which will initially cover two health board areas, with a view to rolling it out across the country after a year.

Health Secretary Alex Neil said: “I’ve been very clear that we must continue to drive improvements in the quality and standard of care in social care settings – for example in public and private care homes and in the provision of care at home services. The launch of Care Opinion will provide a platform for improvements driven directly by feedback from patients and their families.
