£1.2 million funding for voluntary organisations

Glasgow City Council is seeking applications from voluntary and community groups for £1.2 million of Area Committee Funding.

The funding is available to constituted local community and voluntary groups to develop and enhance their current activities.

Area Committees are decentralised structures of Glasgow City Council that deal with council services at a local level. There are 21 Area Committees covering all of Glasgow which meet six-weekly.

To assist in their role Area Committees are allocated an area budget to provide grant assistance to community and voluntary organisations and add value to council services.

Community and voluntary groups can access awards by applying to the area budget.

Funding is available for larger projects which aim to be of benefit to as wide a range of people as possible. Some examples include refurbishment of church buildings where community facilities are available for wider access, children's play area improvements and contributions to multi-purpose games courts.

Awards are available to constituted local community and voluntary groups to develop and enhance their current activities. Examples of things funded include start-up costs, sporting and other equipment, publicity and marketing and assistance towards the cost of hiring a bus for a day trip.

Grants are also available to schools, nurseries and constituted youth groups to enable children and young people to take part in various educational activities.

Funding is available directly on application to Area Committees and must be allocated by March 2009.

Further information is available from the Funding Section .
