GCVS understands the need to protect the privacy of its website users. For that reason we have developed a policy which outlines our practices regarding the retention and passing on of information to other organisations in line with the Data Protection Act 1998.
1. GCVS will not collect any personal data about you unless you consent to this or volunteer this information. Such information includes data such as your name, telephone number, address or email address.
2. Where such data is collected, GCVS will only forward on your information to third parties with your consent.
3. If you do not want your personal data collected please do not submit it. If you would like any personal data removed please contact us at webteam@gcvs.org.uk
4. GCVS may also collect information that may not be personal data such as the type of browser you are using, the type of computer or your IP address. This is mainly for statistical reasons so we know how many people are using the site and what they are looking at.
5. We do not use cookies to collect information about you. Any feedback you give us will only be used to improve the site and will only be kept for 6 months.
6. This privacy statement only covers the GCVS website and does not include any links to other web sites.
7. GCVS is not responsible for any information you as a user of the website may post on a web forum or blog.
8. GCVS has security measures in place to ensure that no information is lost, altered or misused in any way.
9. We may decide to change this privacy policy. In the event that we change anything we will update the policy immediately on the website and will notify you of any major changes by making an announcement on our website.

11. Glossary of terms:
Cookies - files holding information of visitors to the wed site which is noted by the website when the user first visits the site. The web server records the information on a text file and store is on the visitors hard drive. When the visitor revisits the web site the server looks for the cookie and organises itself around the information contained in the cookie.
