Registered Managers Award

This SVQ is based on standards developed by the Training Organisation for Personal Social Services. The Training Organisation for Personal Social Services represent a wide variety of people working in a broad range of occupations within the national health, personal and social services, criminal justice, special needs and housing and community work sector.


Mandatory Units
Candidates must complete all 4 Mandatory Units plus 6 Optional Units:

  • Develop, maintain and evaluate systems and structures to promote the rights and responsibilities of people and diversity of people
  • Manage a service, which meets the best possible outcomes for the individual
  • Manage the use of financial resources
  • Manage the performance of teams and individuals


Optional Units
Candidates must also complete six of the following 19 units, in addition to the mandatory units. At least 1 Unit from each of the following 4 groups & another 2 optional units to be chosen from any of the following 5 groups.

Group 1: Manage Activities
  • Manage activities to meet requirements
  • Contribute to improvements at work
  • Develop programmes, projects and plans
  • Contribute to the provision of effective physical, social and emotional environments for group care
  • Ensure individuals and groups are supported appropriately when experiencing significant life events and transitions
  • Promote the interests of client groups in the community

Group 2: Manage People & Other Resources
  • Take responsibilities for your business performance and the continuing professional development of self others
  • Develop teams and individuals to enhance performance
  • Create, maintain and develop an effective working environment
  • Select personnel for activities
  • Develop and sustain arrangements for joint working between workers and agencies
  • Develop your plans for business

Group 3: Manage Information
  • Provide information to support decision-making
  • Facilitate Meetings

Group 4: Manage Quality
  • Manage continuous improvement
  • Monitor compliance with quality systems

Group 5: Assess/Verify
  • Assess Candidate Performance
  • Assess candidate using differing sources of evidence
  • Internally verify the assessment process
