Community Work (Level 3)

Group award number: G73R 23 Standards

This is the SVQ for people who want to improve their community. The award covers topics such as:

  • establishing a basis for community action;
  • supporting social inclusion and equality for communities;
  • assisting community groups to prioritise needs, rights and objectives;
  • assisting community groups to plan collective action;
  • assisting collective action;
  • contributing to the effectiveness of the work flow;
  • contributing to the arrangements of events.


Mandatory Units
Candidates must complete all of these units:

  • Build Relationships within and with Communities and Organisations
  • Facilitate the Development of Community Groups/Networks
  • Promote and Support Learning from Practice and Experience
  • Support Communities to Plan and Take Collective Action
  • Work with Communities to Identify Needs, Opportunities, Rights and Responsibilities
  • Support Communities to Monitor and Review Action for Change
  • Review Own Practice, Knowledge and Values



Optional Units
Candidates must also complete 2 of the following units, in addition to the mandatory units.1 from Group A and 1 from Group B:

Group A

  • Review and Develop Funding and Resources
  • Develop People's Skills and Roles within Community Groups/Networks
  • Develop and Review Community-based Organisational Structures

Group B
  • Facilitate Ways of Working Collaboratively
  • Support Individuals, Community Groups and Communities to Deal with Conflict
  • Review and Meet Own Learning and Development Needs
