Community Work (Level 2)

This SVQ is based on standards developed by PAULO NTO. PAULO is the NTO for community-based learning and development and draws its membership from a wide variety of people working within community-based Adult Learning, Community Education, Community Work, Youth Work and Parenting Education and Support.

This is the SVQ for people who want to improve their community. The award covers topics such as:

  • establishing a basis for community action;
  • supporting social inclusion and equality for communities;
  • assisting community groups to prioritise needs, rights and objectives;
  • assisting community groups to plan collective action;
  • assisting collective action;
  • contributing to the effectiveness of the work flow;
  • contributing to the arrangements of events.

Mandatory Units
Candidates must complete all of these units:

  • Make Relationships within Communities
  • Contribute to the Development of Community Groups/Networks
  • Work Within Communities to Select Options and Make Plans for Collective Action
  • Contribute to Collective Action Within a Community
  • Identify and Reflect on Own Practice, Knowledge and Values

Optional Units
Candidates must also complete 1 of the following units, in addition to the mandatory units:

  • Contribute to the Review of Needs, Opportunities, Rights and Responsibilities Within a Community
  • Help Ensure the Best Use of Resources
  • Identify and Take Action to Meet Own Learning and Development Needs
