progress2work

If you are getting over a drug problem and looking for a way into work or training, progress2work can help.

progress2work is voluntary and you don’t have to be signing on to join.

What can progress2work do for me?

You will be given an employment worker who will:

  • Talk to you about jobs, training or education
  • Help identify and deal with some of the barriers you think are making it difficult for you to get in to work
  • Sort out an action plan with you that will help you move towards work
  • Offer as much or as little contact as you want
  • Arrange advice about health, housing and debt if that’s what you need
  • Provide support once you have moved into work, training or education to reduce the chances of dropout or relapse.

How do I get referred to progress2work?

You can work with progress2work if you:

  • Are registered at a Jobcentre Plus office in Bridgeton or the south side of Glasgow. (You don’t need to be registered but you must be unemployed);
  • Are aged 16 or over
  • Are now drug-free or stable on prescribed medication
  • Are interested in finding work or finding out more about it

You can contact us directly to find out more or you can ask someone else to ring for you such as:

  • Your Jobcentre Plus personal adviser;
  • A key worker or training provider;
  • Your Social worker, addiction worker or criminal justice worker
  • A Prison officer

Once you have met with us and you decide that you want to join progress2work, you will need to sign a form at your local job centre to start working with us – it’s as easy as that!

What if I decide I’m not ready yet?

progress2work is totally voluntary. It will not affect your benefits in any way until you are ready to take up paid employment. You will continue to sign on as usual or submit sick lines, if this is what you currently do.

You can work with progress2work for as long as you need, or leave at any time. It will not affect your benefits.

You can even decide after a first meeting with us that you don’t want to take it further. Again, this will not affect your benefits.

Can I work if I’m on methadone?

Yes. progress2work works with many people who are on methadone.

What if I am unhappy with progress2work?

We hope that you will benefit from working with us but should you be unhappy with any aspect of the service you receive – please tell us. We will work with you to try to sort this out.

If you are still unhappy, then you will be given a copy of GCVS’s complaints procedure.

progress2work is also able to help financially with training, work clothing and equipment, work bonuses and college books – things that will ease the transition into work financially.

If you would like to find out more, please call 0141 332 2444 and ask to speak to a member of the progress2work team.
