Capacity Building

What exactly is Capacity Building?

Capacity Building is all about growth. It might be viewed as external growth (the number of projects or services delivered, the number of people accessing services, an increase in contracts) or it may be internal growth (infrastructure, staffing levels, and management).

Voluntary organisations tend to be very adaptable and can grow and change very quickly so it's important to ensure that there is enough support for the changes within the organisation.

The service can be broken down into three broad themes:

Advice and Information
Funding information, Signposting, upcoming events and training and organisational start-up;

Review and Assessment
Reviewing funding applications and service levels agreement and assessing constitutions and other governing documents;

Training and Facilitation
Delivering training for management committees and boards and facilitating business planning sessions.

All organisations and individuals can benefit from this project: from people who have innovative ideas and are just setting up through to medium-sized national charities. Some of the organisations that have benefited from this service include Glasgow Fiddle Workshop, Penilee Arts Group and the African Caribbean Network
