Citizens Advice Scotland has launched a summer campaign encouraging people to challenge benefit sanctions.   The campaign will include advice on how to avoid sanctions and how to challenge unfair sanction decisions.

Citizens Advice Bureaus will distribute “Challenge It” postcards with tips on what to do when sanctioned. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the right to appeal against sanction decisions – appeal rates are currently very low, however, the success rate when people do appeal is high.   Survival Guides, which will give detailed information on what to do when sanctioned, will also be produced locally.

Glasgow’s Poverty Leadership Panel has produced an appeals pack which gives advice on what to when sanctioned or turned down for benefits:
