Launched mid-July 2010, 'The Big Society' is a programme from the new coalition government aimed at providing communities with a more active and enpowered role in local issues, shifting power and decision-making away from centralised government.
Further information on the programme, the thinking behind it and the Big Society Network can be found at The Big Society website.
More about the vision of the Big Society is available on the Conservative Party website.
