Help for Those in Fuel Poverty Announced

Finance Minister John Swinney has announced that Scotland's six leading energy providers have promised to help vulnerable customers switch to their lowest cost tariffs.

The move was announced following meetings between the Scottish Government, the energy companies and consumer groups. Energy companies have been criticised in recent months for their overly complex tariffs which have left many of the most vulnerable customers paying more than they need to for their gas and electricity, in a period of rocketing energy prices and increasing fuel poverty.

Consumer Focus Scotland will help to facilitate discussions between energy companies COSLA, SOLACE and voluntary organisations to discuss ways in which they can reach the most vulnerable.

You can read more about these and other measures to tackle fuel poverty on the Scottish Government website.  We have also recently added links to Fuel Poverty resources on our policy resource pages.
