Scottish Parliament Rejects Welfare Reform Bill

On Wednesday, the Scottish Government backed calls to withhold consent for the Welfare Reform Bill. Because the Bill will be decided in the UK Parliament – the move is largely symbolic. However, it shows that Scottish politicians are not prepared to accept the Bill as it stands. The move piles yet more pressure on the UK Government to reverse proposed 20% cuts to disability benefits.
