Much of the first meeting had
to deal with the formalities of setting up a Company, but there was also a
strong focus on setting the agenda for the coming year and ensuring that V.A.S.
was reflecting the key issues and concerns of its membership and that it would
be strategically placed to influence and inform national policy development.
Harry Whiteside, Finance Director of Voluntary Action Lochaber, who had previously chaired the national Council Steering Group was appointed Convenor to the Board of Voluntary Action Scotland.
She said: "The Board of Voluntary Action Scotland holds a breadth and depth of skills and experience that will serve us well in the coming years - people who are firmly located in and connected to the developments and issues impacting on the voluntary sector and collectively can reflect a truly Scottish dimension.
CsVS are going through a period of considerable change and that will demand new visions, confidence in our strengths and services and the ability to form new partnerships and working relationships. By having a strong national body for CsVS we will seek to ensure that all our membership are supported in that process. We will also be seeking early discussions with other National Bodies to explore common agendas and where we might best align our strategic activity"
Other appointments to the Board were Sandy Milne, Director of Voluntary Action West Lothian as Vice Convenor and Kenny Murphy, Chief Officer of Falkirk and District CVS as Company Secretary.
