This course has been designed for supervisors, team leaders and managers. It is an interactive course that aims to develop the skills required to manage the challenges of people management. Typically we look at strategies for managing the person who under performs; managing emotions in highly charged situations; giving feedback and direction; managing conflict in teams and asserting the right to manage, with confidence.

The course will include:

  • Introductions, expectations and concerns
  • Knowing yourself; feedback mechanisms
  • What's in place to support your management role?
  • Doing the preparation before addressing issues
  • Identifying your interpersonal strengths and weaknesses
  • Staying calm, measured and clear headed in challenging situations
  • Defusing (potentially) highly charged situations; the manager; environment; confidentiality; listening first aid; towards resolution;
  • Tips on creating time to think
  • Managing under performance; implementing your policy with confidence (identifying the problem; giving feedback; getting agreement; putting supports in place; monitoring progress)
  • Managing conflict in teams: our role; how we see it; conflict of ideas or personalities; finding common ground; professionalism;
  • Taking ownership of your role
