GCVS is looking for volunteers to help launch our innovative new Buddying service, which will provide targeted support to older people and to people who care for older people.

Offering an opportunity to make a real difference, this role will provide you with new experiences, help you develop your skills and give you the satisfaction of seeing first-hand the impact you can make on someone’s life.

Community Connectors supports people to take positive steps to improve health and wellbeing, increase social interaction and enjoy more vibrant, independent lives and we are looking for ‘buddy’ volunteers to help us support them to achieve their goals. That might be as simple as helping build their confidence to travel on the bus again, to meet new people or rediscover a long-forgotten hobby. You will quickly build up a good relationship with them, accompany them to clubs or activities to help them settle in and feel more comfortable. The opportunities for new and interesting experiences are endless!

Our service is flexible, you can choose which days you would like to volunteer and this does not have to be on a weekly basis – it all depends on when you are free. You don’t need special skills, we will give you all the training and support that you need. All we ask is that you are friendly, reliable and have good communication skills.

Expenses
All expenses reimbursed.

Training & Support
Induction training is provided to all volunteers before starting the role.
Specialised training is on offer on topics such as Dementia Awareness and we are always open to suggestions for new training going forward.
